Douglas Rushkoff - Why Smarter Technologies Are Bad for Society


Media theorist and author Douglas Rushkoff asks the audience at PSFK 2015 to dispute the technological marketplace as it exists today. There’s a role reversal that’s happening with our technologies that Rushkoff argues render us more anti-social rather than enable us to be better communicators.
The current experience of delivering and receiving a live presentation is radically different from that experience in the past. When TED first originated, the speakers were not supposed to prepare their ideas but rather operate on-the-fly. Adversely, an audience today will type frantically from their computer screens, recording every word or concept of a carefully curated speech.
